Karen Sztajnberg is a Brazilian filmmaker, writer, video-artist, and educator, who sees the drive to render life into narratives as intrinsically edifying. She likes to explore a variety of vehicles to register the different stories that encroach up on her and have to be laid down into one format or another.

The video art installation which she conceived and executed The Narrative of Inadequacy has been exhibited in art galleries in Madrid, Berlin, Florence, and Istanbul.

As a screenwriter, Karen has had one produced feature (Casa Grande) and two shorts (Chipped and Pears). The former premiered in competition at Rotterdam in 2014 and went on to win numerous awards on the international festival circuit, securing commercial distribution in France, Benelux, Canada USA and Brazil, where reviews in such vehicles as Cahier du Cinema were overwhelmingly positive. The latter have been acquired by Centre Georges Pompidou and fetched prizes at FRAPA, Brazil and Mexico’s International Film Festival, respectively. To these she adds her Sloan Foundation prize ’03 for Volatile and numerous documentary writing credits(En Route to Baghdad-Independent Lens, PBS, and Laura-Best Documentary at the Hampton Film Festival, distributed by HBO Latin America.
